Day nineteen and the anxiety hasn‘t totally gone away. I'm nearing the three week mark -- the same week I began this journey I read about a controversial ad campaign rolled out in New York City. Controversial because the picture of the damaged lung is kind of gruesome. It’s especially gruesome if you're a smoker!
Recently, I spent a week in Chicago (great town, BTW) and saw similar billboards through out the city … I was still in my “I’m going to quit soon” phase. However, looking at the smoker’s lung was still pretty unsettling, even with my determinations to ‘quit soon’…
Below is a three minute compilation of six anti-smoking commercials produced by the Australian Government-- I have to admit it kind of grosses me out -- I’m glad I didn’t see this until AFTER I quit. The images these commercials put in my mind however, does help minimize my desire to ‘cheat’.
Watch the video and let me know what you think …

Thank you for keeping up with this blog, it helps me every day to know that I am not alone with this struggle, actually I very rarely feel alone, but it does help to know that other people find it as difficult as I do to stop smoking. I too have not smoked in nearly three weeks, I think we have the same quit date. 7/4/09 if I remember correctly. I am going about this without any aids ie; nicotine gum, patches and the like. In the past both myself and my wife were hypnotized and both of us did stop for nearly two years, unfortunately I decided that I could smoke cigars, bad idea, so after a year of puffing away on cigars here I am again. My wife by the way is still not smoking, good for her. Any how Thank you and keep it up!!!
ReplyDeleteTravis;
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your input ... Yes, I think we do have the same quit date, but I have to officially go by July 5th because on the Fourth I had five cigarettes.
I have made the same mistake as you in the past, substituting one tobacco product for another -- it never worked for me, I always found my way back to cigarettes.
This is my new goal -- 100% smoke (tobacco) free for the entire year -- 365 days -- and keep up with this blog the entire way. I hope I can do both.
All comments I get along the way help with the second -- It's nice to know someone is reading this and even better to know if people find it helpful --
Thanks again and keep us all informed.
